Romania day 2

hi followers. It took us a long time to sign in with spotty service. It is night time now and we are in our room. we just unpacked and are getting ready for bed. it is about 11pm our time 7 hours later than you. our boat just started to move for the first time . We are crossing the river to the other side. From Romania to Bulgaria. cool huh!

By the way when we arrived yesterday and the Viking tour person signed us in for the bus she saw our name and said welcome back, as Bogdan is a Romanian name.

after our nice buffet breakfast at the hotel we loaded onto 3 buses. our first stop was the Romanian village museum.  call it the Sturbridge village of Bucharest.  Actually, it was really cool. Homes, work buildings, churches etc. were all moved here from all 4 regions of Romania. some wood with hay on the roof and some are like a dug out from the praire half underground to keep hidden and safe plus it was warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

we are pulling into our new port now and we are watching from a web cam on the tv.

ok back to our day... getting everyone loaded on the busses can take a while but we figured it out and headed to the Parliament building. second largest administrated building in the world the Pentagon being the first. It was commissioned by Ceausescu, however he was overthrown in 1989 and never got to use the building. actually, the balcony he planned to wave to the crowds from never saw his presence and the first to wave from there was Michael Jackson. ha ha.... the rooms and hallways were lavish and beautiful.  They were filled with marble, exotic wood, custom made carpets and chandeliers. After our 45 minute tour we had only 5% of the place.  And, it was pretty empty as Parliament was on vacation.

We had a brief stop at a Romanian Orthodox Church. They are all the same shape though. some are wood while others stone. This one was renovated and stucco. The insides are very ornately painted and have some guilting.  We saw a lot as we drove around and had a big lunch Romanian style with music and traditional dancers.

1.5 hour ride to the ship. our cabin is very nice. clean and plenty big enough. Dinner was delicious and nice conversation with a few folks we sat with. People are from all over on our cruise. mostly USA, UK and a few other places. slowly we are nick naming some of the colorful guests.

very tired so off to bed now. tomorrow we tour a small village area in Bulgaria 9-5:30 which includes driving time
