countryside in Bulgaria

Some of the better moments of the trip are the interesting people we have met. We have a dinner gang to chat with the past couple of nights. who knows if that will stick  but it sure is fun. One couple traveled the world with BP living in the Middle East and other places bringing thier kids up there.

Jesse and Emily imagine high school in Cairo? and go figure one of thier kids ended up at Wash U.

ok back to Bulgaria ,  by the way did you know that Vlad the impaler killed hundreds when he crossed the river to these shores?   Ok now for our day...we rode for 1.5 hours to the middle of the country to a town called Beliko Tarnovo where we saw the ruins of a fortress and saw local arts. Kinda boring arts. onward to a town called Arbanassi for a delicious local lunch with more gulash and dancers.

known in this country is Rose oil and all the things they make out of it. Who would think that Bulgaria is famous for this. We also saw a church of  nativity that was filled with fresco's and half underground because at the time it was built in the late 1500's you were not aloud to have any buildings taller than a man on a horse. They rulers thought if buildings were taller they would be like a fortress and country folks could hide.

The homes were stone on the  bottom for the sheds and tools and wood on top to sleep and live. We had a tour of an old home from the time when Bulgeria was part of Turkey,  Whole families slept on one bed slab. cozy huh.

The ship moved while we were out all day we embarked again in Svishtov and when we got back on we were cruising for the first time. Tomorrow we spend another day in Bulgeria.

We learned a bit after dinner on the life of Dracula,
