Heading north Speyer and beilstein

We got an early start so we could stop off and see the town of Speyer to see the sights and eat lunch. San interesting town that dates back to at least 1100. We visited the Speyer cathedral where in the basement there were crypts. The town must have had dozens of gelato places and lots of Italian food. Not sure why be w took full advantage. Especially the gelato. Emily finally got Her spaghetti ice cream. We got to watch as they made the creation with cherry sauce 3scoops of vanilla squeezed through a machine much like play doe then topped with whipped cream and white chocolate shavings. Yum. We all got different flavors. Good thing we walked it off later. The most interesting part of town was the ruins of a Jewish temple dating 1011 back in these days the town protected the Jews. The temple was a ruin but the Mikva was fully intact still with spring water inside. Amazing little history museum surrounding the site.

Off for another 1.5 hour journey to our final destination, Beilstein in the Mosel valley wine country right on the calm Mosel river. The hotel restaurant had a patio draped in grape vines overlooking the river and vinyards. We enjoyed a very leisurely meal as the sun was setting. Out room is 4 (walk up) stories up. A huge space overlooking the hillside and river. We are sharing this family space for the next 3 final nights. the kids have already explored the castle ruin ways above the vineyard behind us. Tomorrow, Cochem and a real castle that is still occupied called burg Eltz. Goodnight...
