Burg Eltz, Cochem, and Mosel river

Out to explore today. I am hoping you are enjoying following our travels. We look forward to getting you're Emails upon our return.

After delicious breakfast at our hotel (every hotel included breakfast on this trip) we set off for Burg (castle)Eltz form about 1100 and in the same family or three branches of them for 800 years. The furnishings and tapestries and everything's seated mostly from about 1500. Several time restorations have taken place. Most recently 1900 excep t for now the roof. The tour showed us about 10 of80 rooms. There are 40 fireplaces and 25 bathrooms. The was a room of treasures set up like a museum that we saw at the end of the tour. Armore, guns, dishes snuff boxes, and more... We had hiked up to the castle on a wooded path above a small river/ stream that took about 45min 2.5pm a very nice hike.(Down too)

from there we headed back south along the Mosel river to. cochem for a look around. That town is bigger and more tourists. The kids went u a small ski lift for the view and the plan s they would hike down 20 min. To the other side coming out at a vineyard tucked on a hillside like all of them. Th is one was behind the train station were we would be waiting at a small place tasting wine. However... The wind place was closed as the owner w at the towns wine festival and soon after the kids would have reached the top a big thunder storm including hail came in. Just a bit concerned but could not do anything else we pulled the car up to what we thought was the bottom of the trail. The rain slowed down and after another 20 min we spotted the kids just above the vinyard. The trouble was they could not figure out where the path led down. The eventually cut through the grapes and got down. Finally the place opened again and we had our little tasting of 8 local wines. The cool thing about this area is that every tiny town has it's own wine.

Of down the Mosel again to a medieval town. We strolled a bit and stopped for local dinner along with local wine. Lovely. Back to Beilstein...

Not sure what our last day. Will bring. Anyone know if the hurricane will hit Boston Sunda night?

Off we went to drive
