lunch out thanks Agnes

modern stained glass

wine tasting with Agnes (thanks Antoine)
We started to catch up with our sleep a litlle bit. Even after Emily woke us up at 1am when she returned from Anne's friends party. We began the morning with a delicious breakfast of bakery pastries & fruit. Off to meet Agnes, Anne's mother to spend the day. We got to see Anne's new school as she had to register. It was in the La Victoire section of the city. It is filled with students from part of the University of Bordeaux. The plaza has the Aquitaine Gate and the obelisk and a torture sculpture dedicated to the wine of the region. We wandered along the neighborhoods to through a huge indoor market to the theatre, art and music school area an had a lovely lunch under the shade of the trees. Emily and Anne left from there to go to the movies (Dark Shadows)
We stopped into the Basilique Saint-Michele as we heard organ music (another favorite treat for Jim. The stained glass was really nice. Mostly new modern ones because they wewre destroyed in the war.
We wandered through the plazas and peeked into shops as we headed for a special wine tasting event. We were given a glass and a booklet informing us of the 8 wines we would taste. You can imagine how happy Jim was! Agnes and I enjoyed ourselves too. The wines were from every region. The wines were all Grands Crus Classe' (high level$$) It was a rare treat. We then wandered through the riverside wine festival along the river. There folks pay for a pass and get a glass for tastings. We had our fill at the special event.
Dinner and a relaxing late evening back at Agnes home with the girls. We were too tired to go back out for the light show and fire works at 11 pm so here we are back at Antoines house ready for sleep. So... Much walking today. We can hear them now so hopefully we go tomorrow. Good night.
